Climate change impacts on irrigated crops in Cambodia

چکیده
Increasing heat-stress conditions, rising evaporative demand and shifting rainfall patterns may have multifaceted impacts on Cambodia's agricultural systems, including vegetable production. Concurrently, domestic supply is highly seasonal inadequate to meet the food demand, which consequently poses risks security locally, particularly in rural areas. This study assesses impact of climate change yields crop water productivity (CWP) tomato, pak choi yard-long bean cultivated year-round under different irrigated conditions (drip, furrow net irrigation) Siem Reap, Cambodia. The findings this show a similar annual precipitation decline (-23%) when comparing 2017–2040 2070–2099 periods for both Representative Concentration Pathways (RCPs 4.5 8.5), though with significant differences between two scenarios. are expected adverse tomato plants compared bean, much higher heat tolerance. Differing yield trends depending transplanting/sowing date, irrigation method RCP. In example, -55% loss projected by end-century (2070–2099) transplanting January, whereas + 37% increase November December over same period. addition, enhancements up +30% if sowing May RCP 8.5 drip conditions. Similarly, simulated (+29%) (+11%) average all dates (January December) methods irrigation). sum, work relevant evidence-based decision-making development projects, policies programmes increasingly informed simulation results from bundling climate-crop approaches transform agriculture response change.

An explanation to such findin...

background and objectives: over the last decade, climate change has been one of the most challenging issues in the scientific papers. studying the impacts of climate change on crop productivity at regional scale will depend on the right estimate of future climate. this estimation is being implemented by climate models and most of them by general circulation models (gcms). this study aims at pre...
متن کاملClimate change impacts on forestry.
Changing temperature and precipitation pattern and increasing concentrations of atmospheric CO(2) are likely to drive significant modifications in natural and modified forests. Our review is focused on recent publications that discuss the changes in commercial forestry, excluding the ecosystem functions of forests and nontimber forest products. We concentrate on potential direct and indirect im...
متن کاملClimate Change and Projected Impacts in Agriculture: an Example on Mediterranean Crops
Recently, the availability of multi-model ensemble prediction methods has permitted the assignment of likelihoods to future climate projections. This allowed moving from the scenario-based approach to the risk-based approach in assessing the effects of climate change, thus providing more useful information for decision-makers that, as reported by Schneider (2001), need probability estimates to ...
